2006 King County Republican Party Convention

April 29, Auburn, WA.

The 2006 King County Republican Party Convention brought together party activists of all ages on the campus of Green River Community College in Auburn. With addresses by our candidates like Dave Reichert, Norma Maleng, Nancy Potts, Steve Bern, and 43rd District standard bearers Loren Nelson, Will Sohn, and Hugh Foskett, this was American democracy at its grassroots finest.

The Founding Fathers would be proud!

I-5 Cleanup on March 25th!

Lisa B. & Mark G. led fellow members of the 43rd
in a special meeting of the I-5 cleanup patrol on March 25th.

WHEN WAS IT?: Saturday March 25th, 10am.
WHERE WAS IT?: Meet at the Ravenna Park & Ride (under I-5 on the north side of NE 65th Street)
WHO MADE IT HAPPEN?: Leaders are Lisa B. and Mark G.
WHAT DID WE DO?: Not only do we get to HELP CLEAN THIS CITY UP (before the next election!), but we get to wear real HARD HATS & put up a MEN AT WORK SIGN just like the pros.
WHAT DID WE WEAR?: Jeans and work were a perfect complement for those authentic State of Washington DOT hard hats and
orange vests.

It was fun, did not take too long (90 minutes due to 1 particular litterbug)

This is one of the important ways we have to let our friends
and neighbors know that we are here, and that we care
about the city we live in as well as the environment of Puget Sound.

It also underscores one of our core beliefs:
that we as a people do not have to wait for government
to do something for us that we are perfectly capable of doing for ourselves.

Please participate in our next cleanup, and bring a friend!

February 21st Pasta & Politics

We had a blast at our most recent "Fun-Raising" Social Event at Buca Di Beppo, which is a casual, fun place.

Beppo's (206) 244-2288 701 9th Ave N Seattle, WA 98109 is right by Seattle Center, with 2 free parking lots next door.

As Alan Deright pointed out, it was one of the businesses that was saved as a result of some of the folks at the table whose efforts helped defeat the "Seattle Commons" at the polls. This was an important reminder for all of us about how our work helps save jobs (like those of our very tolerant waiter!) and businesses.

Evening High-Points Included:

  • The 43rd District Republicans Men's Chorus (A. Deright, Director) Singing "Happy Birthday" to Ali at the Next table.

  • Jim Nobles Talked About 'Where All the Monorail Money Went' (those salaries were amazing!).

  • Most of all, New Friends and New Faces!

This was a low-key casual event that was perfect for new folks curious about our Party, and brought some new faces to the table.

Ideas for future 'fun-raisers' are percolating so stay tuned.

March 7th Caucus!

We had our 43rd District Caucus the evening of March 7th, at the Seward School.

People were there early, and had such a blast that only the promise of Ale got the last of them out. We were pleased to see some new faces and make new friends. It was especially nice to see one young man excited at the prospects of voting for the first time later this year. We need to do our best to make sure he has some folks worth voting for.

Here is a map showing Seward School in case you forgot where we were!

AWARDS FROM THIS EVENING:

The Thomas Paine Award is given to Ted Choi, for reminding the chair that although the Universe may be governed by a clockwork the Caucus process is often not. Democracy is based on Common Sense, and the Rights of Man include being heard.
*

Franco got the award for Best Joke by universal acclamation.

The following text is taken from our announcement. The antidote to cynicism is seeing how our system works. If the thousands of our fellow citizens who do not vote had a chance to see what goes on, they would be astounded at how open and inviting the process is. We hope you take every chance to tell your friends and neighbors what you experienced.

This is what we said:

"The overwhelming message Americans get from the media is that the political process is a closed box, and that individual citizens have little chance of influencing policy or their government.

There are so many groups today that tell our fellow citizens that they are powerless, that they 'need someone to stand up for them'. But in a time when so many groups spread a message of fear, alienation, and disenfranchisement, there is one group that offers instead a a real path to inclusion and empowerment.

To find out the truth, visit a party caucus like the one we are holding on March 7th! What you will find is that, at least in the Republican Party, ideas flow from the grassroots up. And the best ideas make it all the way to Washington DC.

A Precinct caucus is the American political system at its most accessible and democratic."

Come see, and learn how real people can make a real difference!

You matter, and you CAN make a difference!

Thank you all for attending.

March 21st Work & Fun Meetings!

March 43rd District Meeting Tuesday, March 21st at Seward School

We are having a our District meeting 7pm Tuesday, March 21st, at Seward School,
which is centrally located and has convenient parking.

Here is a map showing Seward School

We will be trying out a new meeting format.
Following the lead of several other King County districts that have blazed a trail before us, we are going to try and segment our meetings into 2 parts for efficiency.

The Work Meeting:

From 7pm to about 8:15 or so, the real work of the 43rd District gets done. This is where we handle the grassroots, nuts and bolts part of the Republican Party, and do our part to keep Democracy working in America.

For those members who have families, or early start times at work the next day, we will try to keep this part of the meeting efficient, and get the work done. Any discussion not pertaining to the working part of the meeting will be tabled and picked up later at
The Fun Meeting. We will then adjourn.

The Fun Meeting:

For those who are interested in either idle banter or serious political analysis and discourse, we will convene
The Fun Meeting at Siam on Lake Union, where in addition to chat there is decent food and drinks to be had.

1880 Fairview E
Seattle, WA 98102 - 3723
(206) 323-8101

This will be a low-key casual event that is perfect for new folks who might be curious about our Party.
So please, DO invite your friends.
